Don't be shy: Treat Urinary Incontinence through Physical Therapy

An estimated 1.2 million Malaysians suffered from some form of inconti

nence or inability to control any involuntary loss of urine. If you count yourself in that number, you may not be comfortable admitting it or discussing it, even with your health care provider.
Urinary incontinence (UI) also known as "loss of bladder control" or "urinary leakage." UI happen when urine leaks out before you can get to a bathroom. Some women may lose a few drops of urine when they cough or laugh. Others may feel a sudden urge to urinate and cannot control it.

Many assume that frequent bladder leakage or lack of control is simply something they must learn to live with, and may choose to manage the problem with diapers, medications or surgery.

HOWEVER, THERE IS AN EASIER AND EFFECTIVE SOLUTION: PHYSICAL THERAPY.

Physical therapy addresses the root causes of urinary continence, rather than simply treating the symptoms. Lack of bladder control actually stems from a lack of control over the muscles underneath the bladder which known as pelvic floor muscle. It is estimated that pelvic floor disorders occur in up to ¼ of women. Pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause are major reasons why women are in high risk of poor pelvic muscle. This is also the reason why UI is twice as common in women as in men.

Physical therapy help to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles so that they can continue to do their job of supporting the bladder and helping the body to regain control of leakage. Pelvic floor muscle training as treatment for urinary incontinence has become increasingly recognized for its ability to effectively prevent or decrease the symptoms of incontinence. For best result, seek the help of a trusted physiotherapist.

Other than urinary incontinence, women experience unique health issues and conditions, from pregnancy and menopause to gynecological conditions. If you wish to know more about women’s health, welcome to join ‘女做王 健康营’ organize by Alpro pharmacy on 10 March 2018 (Saturday) at D’ Tempat country club, Bandar Sri Sendayan.
